Job Description:
Airbus Netherlands B.V. is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Design&Analysis Team based in Leiden, The Netherlands.

Airbus Netherlands B.V. designs and builds solar arrays to power up satellites during all the phases of the mission. Our solar arrays need to be properly designed in such a way to provide the necessary power to the satellite and payloads, and able to sustain all the mechanical and thermal loads during all the phases of the mission. We are using our years of experience and the knowledge we have acquired to make new things possible in this field.
You will be part of a team that supports mainly the design of new Solar Arrays. Duties include designing via CAD the space products, considering the requirements of our customers which always differ from one mission to another. This to be performed in close collaboration with Lead and Systems Engineers, our expert mechanical and thermal engineering team, the Material&Process department and our experienced Assembly&Integration Team.

Your challenges:

  • Perform all the necessary FEM analysis so as to assess that the Solar Array wing is able to sustain all the mechanical loads associated to the mission, both in stowed and deployed configurations
  • Detail results of FEA analysis in technical reports
  • Liaise with Design and Thermal engineering team, and other appropriate Airbus departments to come up with optimum design solutions.
  • Participate and/or provide technical support during Reviews
  • Ensure that final design allows successful integration of each design element with the product as a whole.
  • Accept broad objectives with agreed deadlines, but establish the tasks required and how they should be completed. 
  • Ensure application of best practices and identify the need for enhanced processes, methods, and tools.
  • Ensure all tasks and activities are correctly executed within time and allowable budget, in such a way to meet quality level required by our customers.

 Your boarding pass:

  • Master Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Aerospace) with a strong curriculum emphasis on FEA, preferably using NASTRAN and FEMAP S/W.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as mechanical engineer, preferably in the space sector.
  • Knowledge of classical and numerical (Finite Element) stress analysis methods, and having background knowledge also on classical mechanical and thermal aspects to be considered during design phase of space products.
  • Capable of working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment both independently and collectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, & PowerPoint) and Google Suite (GMail, Docs, Sheets, Slides) required.
  • Nice to have, minimum 2 years of experience using CATIA V5 in the last 5 years.
  • Nice to have is having matured a consolidated knowledge using ABAQUS S/W for mechanical structural analysis.
  • Nice to have is having matured a consolidated knowledge using ADAMS S/W to perform multibody dynamics analysis
  • Nice to have is having a robust knowledge in performing FEM acoustic analysis, preferably using Actran S/W.
  • Team player with a positive & collaborative attitude.
  • Good interpersonal skills, flexibility and adaptability.
  • Demonstrated a high level of problem-solving ability.
  • Must be able to communication effectively in English (verbal and written)
  • Conversational in Dutch is a plus.
